Are you missing your favourite lunch spot or cocktail? I’ve not been able to stop thinking about food since the lockdown began.
I even started to scroll through pictures of various lunches and dinners out and have attempted - with great success - to recreate them at home.
While all restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs etc have closed to the public, majority have started takeaway services, many are even putting together recipe kits and chefs have started sharing live cooking lessons.
By cooking along to a live tutorial hosted by expert chefs or your favourite restaurant not only can you learn some of the secrets to the dishes but it makes cooking fun and less monotonous.
I recently cooked up Wagamama inspired spicy beef noodles - it was sooooo good I made it again. If you want more Wagamama recipes then get onto their social channels in Wednesdays to get the latest dish on their ‘Wok from home’ series.
Only 300 meters up the road from me is Nutters Restaurant and well-known chef Andrew Nutter has been hosting live cook-alongs too and he’s doing everything from brunch, lunch and dinner.
He’s also teamed up with Manchester’s family-run Italian restaurant Salvi’s, to host live cookery lessons through its Facebook page.
If you fancy a cocktail or two then head to Menagerie’s instagram page where you can join owner Karina Jadhav and their GM Joel Collins for their cocktail masterclasses. Why not try your hands at a French Kiss or a strawberry Daiquiri.
Want to add some Michelin magic then chef Massimo Bottura can help you take it up a notch. The Italian chef has been live streaming his family dinner prep from his kitchen every night at 7pm.
Fancy Nando’s? That’s right I’ve not made this up. Nando’s is also hosting an Instagram live cook-along every Thursday at 7pm with Tim, the head chef behind its much-loved menu.
I do miss a good cheese and onion pasty from Greggs. The bakery chain closed all its shops but ut’s been sharing its recipes on its official Facebook page. The latest recipe includes chicken bake. that includes what they do, how long they’ve been at it, and what got them to where they are.
And if you want to create my Wagamama inspired spicy beef noodles here is the recipe for four people:
Ingredients
Method
In a bowl add the soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce, hot chill sauce along with ginger and garlic and stir well. Add beef steaks, combine tiogether and leave aside.
Peel and chop onions.
Halve the peppers and discard the core. Cut into small pieces.
Grate the carrotts.
Heat a large frying pan, drizzle some oil (I like to use rapeseed oil as it's healthier and has a higher heat point). When oil is hot add the beef and stir fry for two minutes and no more. The beef doesn't need long in the pan.
Remove the steak and juice from the pan.
Add a little more oil to the pan then add the onions, peppers and carrotts and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir and cook for another 4-6 minutes.
In the meantime cook your noodles according to instructions on the package. This shouldn't take longer than 4 minutes.
Once the vegetables are cooked add the beef and remaining juice along with seseme seeds and a finely chopped red chilli (optional if you don't like the heat).
Drain noodles and add to the frying pan. Stir together and then serve.
Note: You can substutite noodles with rice - it's just as tasty :)
